Akhnoor girls wins double title

JAMMU, Aug 28: Likewise last year, girls from Akhnoor zone dominated in team events taking home twin titles of kho-kho and volleyball in the two-day inter-zonal under-19 girls competitions of Jammu district held under the banner of Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at Government Higher Secondary School, Domana, here today.
In kho-kho final played today, Akhnoor girls outplayed their counterparts from Khour zone making it a one-sided contest 11-02. Earlier, in the semifinals, Khour beat Bhalwal zone 8-6 and Akhnoor outplayed R S Pura zone by an innings and 11 points. Earlier, Akhnoor zone won the volleyball title yesterday.
However, Akhnoor girls were stopped from making a clean sweep by Satwari zone when latter beat the former in the closely contested final 34-30. In the semifinals, Akhnoor beat Jammu zone 58-21 and Satwari zone defeated R S Pura 35-04 in a one-sided contest.
The finals were witnessed by Deputy Director (Central), Kanchan Bala and Princiapl of host GHSS Domana, Ajit Raj Sharma.
