BSF inspector killed, one hurt in mystery firing

JAMMU, Aug 01: A Border Security Force (BSF) Inspector was killed in accidental firing while another junior officer present along with him in the BSF gypsy was hurt in the firing incident on Friday morning near Miran Sahib area of RS Pura sector.
According to official sources, BSF inspector of 94 Battalion was killed under mysterious circumstances in accidental firing while sub inspector was injured in the alleged firing incident inside 94 Battalion headquarters of BSF in Indreshwar Nagar BSF camp. The deceased BSF officer has been identified as Rati Ram while injured sub-Inspector has been identified as Ranjit Thakur.
The sub-inspector, who was injured in the incident, has been admitted to Government Medical College (GMC) hospital for treatment, sources said.
The BSF authorities have ordered inquiry behind the firing incident to ascertain the circumstances leading to the death of BSF officer.
Meanwhile, local police authorities have also started investigating the case and have seized two weapons from near the BSF camp in RS Pura area.
Unconfirmed reports claimed that the BSF officer was killed by his junior officer in a fit of anger after verbal brawl while returning to the Battalion headquarters in RS Pura area.
"There is no foul play in the incident and it is a case of accidental sniper fire", the officer said, adding the incident did not took place on the international border (IB) belt but in-depth area at R S Pura BSF headquarter.
