2 others killed in Surankote, Nagrota mishaps

JAMMU/SAMBA, May 31: Two teenaged cousins were crushed to death by a speeding vehicle in Jammu while a biker died after being hit by an army vehicle at Bari Brahmana in Samba district, today.
Police said that the two teenagers were crushed to death when the two-wheeler (Scooty) they were riding was run over by a speeding vehicle near Hotel Asia crossing in Jammu during the wee hours of Saturday morning.
"Two teenagers identified as Sourab Kumar Bali, 19, son of Devinder Kumar Bali (J&K Bank Manager, Sarwal) and Aman Bali, 17, son of Pardeep Bali, both residents of House number 364-A Gandhi Nagar were crushed when the Scooty they were riding was crushed by an unidentified speeding vehicle in Gandhi Nagar area near Hotel Asia.
"The incident occurred around 2.00 AM this morning when the duo went to purchase ‘Maggie’ after they learnt of having passed Class 12th and were preparing for Common Entrance Test (CET).
Both the teenagers were taken to the hospital where doctors pronounced them as brought dead.
"Both the victims were cousins. We have launched a manhunt to nab the vehicle responsible for the tragedy. The driver has fled from the scene of occurrence along with the vehicle," a senior police officer said.
A pall of gloom descended in the entire Gandhi Nagar residential and commercial area in the city when the news about the accident spread there. The parents of the deceased teens live in this area.
Police has registered a case in this connection.
In another incident a youth was killed and another sustained critical injuries when an army truck rammed into a motorcycle out the entrance gate of 92 Infantry Brigade, Bari Brahmana.
Reports from Samba said that an army truck rammed into a bike bearing registration number JK02AP-217 outside the entrance gate of 92 Infantry Brigade, Bari Brahmana, resulting into on spot death of motorcyclist and critical injuries to pillion rider.
Reports further said that after hitting the bike, the driver of army truck managed to flee along with the vehicle as the Central Military Police (CMP) and others on guard duty at entrance gate facilitated the erring driver to escape alongwith the vehicle by opening the gates.
As the youth who hails from RS Pura area were returning back to village Maheen Sarkar after attending the cremation of their relative, scores of people including locals rushed to the spot and protested outside the army gate demanding immediate arrest of the erring driver.
SDPO Bari Brahmana, Shahzad Salaria alongwith SHO Police Station Bari Brahmana Shiv Dev Singh rushed to the spot immediately and ensured the seizure of army truck and arrest of erring driver. The locals later lifted the dharna. The body was shifted to Government Medical College, Jammu for autopsy and other legal formalities, whereas, the injured too has been shifted to GMC for treatment.
The identity of the deceased was ascertained as Pawan Kumar, 40, son of Puran Chand resident of Chak Islam, RS Pura, whereas, the injured has been identified as Pawan Kumar son of Rattan Lal resident of Kollein in RS Pura.
The arrested driver has been identified as Naik Ram Inder Singh of 15 Raj Rifle and a case FIR number 70 under section 279 and 304-A has been registered by the police in this regard.
Reports from Poonch said that the death of a minor in a tragic road accident sparked protest in Surankote and a peaceful bandh was held against traffic police and ARTO Poonch.
Official sources said that a minor boy Rahil Malik, 17, son of Mushtaq Hussain, resident of Fazlabad was returning to his home after attending his school at Mirza Morh. He slipped from the passenger bus bearing registration number JK12-5571 and was critically injured. Locals immediately shifted him to Sub District Hospital Surankote where he succumbed to his injuries.
News of death of the boy spread like wild fire in the town and bandh call was given by Beopar Mandal Surankote. Locals and students protested against traffic police and ARTO Poonch for passing worst condition passenger vehicle and giving them authority to move passengers from one side to another.
Addressing the gathering Mohammad Shakeel, a protester said that they want peace but this department is forcing them to protest on streets. He said traffic police is receiving entry from transporters and allow them to run very old buses. Same is the condition of ARTO he is also passing these killer vehicles. He said today a youth lost his life when a window of the old vehicle got damaged and fell from the vehicle. He demanded immediate seizure of all the old passenger vehicles and said if government did not do that they will continue their protest.
After getting information, SHO Police Station Surankote and Tehsildar Surankote rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the protesters. On the assurance of senior police officer that police will seize old vehicles and take action against the erring drivers locals lifted protest, this evening.
Meanwhile, a woman identified as Mukhtyara Bibi, 40, wife of Hussain Mohammad of Dami Nagrota died on the spot and her son injured was injured when a load carrier vehicle bearing registration number JK02BD-1167 hit them at Dhammi area of Nagrota last evening. The people blocked national highway for an hour in protest against the death of woman.
