Cops start massive manhunt in north, south Kashmir

SRINAGAR, May 24: Night protests erupted at Mandir Bagh locality here against police action during which the cops tried to arrest a local youth.
The police have also started a massive crackdown in Pulwama district of south Kashmir against the youth. Police claims that they were involved in stone-pelting.
The locals said that around 50 youths have been arrested by police for the last one week in different areas of the district.
The reports from north Kashmir said that police have intensified their search operation against the youths allegedly involved in stone-pelting incidents.
The locals of Mandir Bagh last night refused to handover youth to police after a team of police party entered in the locality to arrest the youth.
Reports also said that when the police party tried to arrest the youths, a large number of people came out from their residential houses and protested against the police action and foiled their attempt to arrest the youths.
In protest against the last night police action, the local traders Association this morning observed a few hours strike against the incident. However, after the assurance of state administration, the traders called off their strike and started their usual business.
The police have started a fresh crackdown against the alleged stone palters in south Kashmir Pulwama district for the last one week.
Reports said that more than 50 youths have been arrested from various villages of the Pulwama allegedly involved in stone pelting.
Reports also said that police have made a list of 500 youths in the district involved in stone pelting incidents and number of them has already been arrested by police.
Reports from Baramulla, Bandipora, Sopore, Hajan and various other areas of north Kashmir said that a large number of youths have been arrested by police allegedly involved in stone pelting.
The locals however said that some youths have been released by police for the last couple of days, but the police have continued their manhunt to arrest the youths.
Parents of the detained youths have alleged that police are allegedly demanding money in exchange of the release of the youth who are languishing in police stations.
The parents also alleged that police have kept some brokers who are demanding money from them in exchange of release of youths. They said that it has become a business to police official, firstly arresting the youths and them demanding money from their parents in exchange of the money.
The Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani has already given a one-day strike call, against the detention of youths and it get a very good response from people.
