SRINAGAR, May 16: Hours after the clean sweep of PDP in Kashmir valley, Congress trained guns at National Conference (NC) for the debacle.
PCC chief Prof Saif-u-Din Soz squarely blamed National Conference for the loss. Talking to KNS, he said. “It is in no circumstances the PDP wave in Kashmir but surely a deep hatred against National Conference prevalent in Valley that has given PDP three seats.”
Soz said, it is not only him but many other Congress leaders believe that the votes could not be transferred to National Conference candidates because of hatred against this party on the ground. “You have seen votes could not be transferred in some constituencies of South and North Kashmir. Despite serious efforts by the Congress leaders the people decided to vote against NC candidate,” the PCC president said.
PCC chief said there was a communal polarisation in Jammu which caused the defeat of Congress candidates. “No doubt there are secular forces in Jammu region but this time the communal polarization worked for BJP,” he added.
Soz said it is an occasion to congratulate the winners. “It will be our endeavor to work harder and reach the people and continue to serve them best. I feel convinced that India’s strong secular edifice will stand test of the times and the hallmark of India’s polity will continue to be the unity in diversity,” Soz said
Meanwhile, Asghar Karbalie, Congress leader from Kargil said National Conference had ditched Congress in Ladakh by fielding its candidate from Islamia School who according to the Congress leader cut votes of Congress in Ladakh Lok Sabha seat. He termed the defeat of coalition candidates ‘tragic’ adding that it was further unfortunate that a person like Ghulam Nabi Azad has also lost the election whom Congress considered to be best of the candidates and who had served the state best.
“The election will go down in the annals of parliamentary history of India as a situation in which propaganda won over facts and truth got mixed with falsehood of various shades. But, finally it is a democratic and peoples’ verdict and we have to accept it gracefully,” he added.
