Rainfall lashes J&K, to continue till Apr 7

SRINAGAR, Apr 2: After three days of sunshine, rainfall greeted Valley again this afternoon. There were reports of light rainfall from all parts of Kashmir and Jammu region.
The precipitation has been caused by the western disturbances over the state.
There was a decline in the day temperatures by 2-3 degrees. The rainfall is likely to continue till tomorrow.
“After a slight break on April 4, we are expecting more precipitation from April 5-7,” said Sonum Lotus, director meteorological department.
He informed coming days shall see below normal day temperatures. There shall be persistent rainfall and cloudy conditions with occasional breaks.
The day temperatures in Srinagar dipped to 13.6 degree Celsius from 21 degrees. In Qazigund the maximum temperatures went down to 9 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam 10.8, Kupwara 11.8 and Kokernag 9 degree Celsius.
Lotus stated that this spring has been one of the coldest in Kashmir. The lowest maximum temperatures recorded in the month March broke the record of 30 years.
“The lowest maximum temperatures till this year have been around 18 degree Celsius. But this year on March 8, we recorded 16.7 degree Celsius.”
He stated that during the past three days, there has been immediate sharp increase in temperatures.
The minimum temperatures recorded in Srinagar were 7 degree Celsius. Qazigund recorded night temperatures at 4.6 degrees, Pahalgam at 0.6, Kupwara 4.2, Kokernag 5.4 and Gulmarg recorded 0.8 degree Celsius.
Till this evening, Srinagar received 3.7mm of rainfall. Qazigund reported 1.8mm of rainfall, Pahalgam 10.4 mm, Kupwara 6.4mm, Kokernag 2.3mm, Jammu 3.5 mm, Banihal 20.9mm, Batote 25.4mm, Katra 7.7mm and Baderwah received 10 mm of rainfall
