More snow, rain likely from Mar 14

SRINAGAR, Mar 13: The snowfall and current weather conditions in Kashmir have broken the record of 2007. The snowfall has been recorded highest since 2007. The minimum and maximum temperatures have been lowest since 2007. Meanwhile, weather department has predicted more rain and snow for Kashmir.
According to the Deputy Director, MeT Farooq Khan, the lowest minimum temperature so far recorded in the month of March Srinagar was in 1965 at minus 6.9 degree celsius. This was followed by minus 3 degrees in 1983 and minus 2.0 in 2007. The minimum temperatures last night went down to minus 2.0 degrees breaking the record of 2007.
The lowest maximum temperatures of 2.0 degree celsius recorded on March 11, 2014 in Srinagar broke the record of lowest maximum of 2007 which was reported at 2.6 degrees on March 12.
The highest precipitation including rain/ snow ever recorded in Srinagar in March is 365 mm in 1983. However, highest snowfall reported in the month of March was 139 mm equivalent to rain in 2007. The recent snowfall was measured at 159 mm.
Weatherman has predicted more rain and snowfall at isolated places within the next 24 hours. Another western disturbance is approaching the Valley and is expected to bring rain and snow to most parts of Kashmir from March 14-18. The main activity is expected on March 16.
“We are expecting more rain/ snow but light to moderate. The weather is likely to improve from March 19,” said Khan.
The minimum temperatures recorded in Srinagar were minus 2.0 degree Celsius. Qazigund recorded minus 1.6 degrees, Pahalgam froze at minus 4.4 degrees, Kupwara minus 0.9 degrees and Kokernag recorded 2.8 degree Celsius.
Gulmarg recorded night temperatures of minus 7.6 degree Celsius.
