“Aasi: Shakhs aur Shair” released at JU

JAMMU, Mar 11: Prof. Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu released a book titled “Aasi: Shakhs aur Shair”at a function held here this today.
Written by Mohd Asif Malik a research scholar of the PG department of Urdu, University of Jammu at a function here this morning. The book release function was jointly organized by the Centre for Professional studies in Urdu and PG Department of Urdu, University of Jammu.
Addressing on the occasion Prof. Ishar lauded the efforts of Asif Malik for writing the book on the life and poetry of Aasi in a very interesting way. He further said that it was a great treat to listen to some of the famous poems of Aasi, a lesser known poet to the common man. Prof Ishar said that scholar has brought in light all the aspects of the Aasi’s life and poetry in a befitting manner and hoped that many people will get enlightened in reading the book. Prof. Ishar also highlighted the role of language departments and said that the Department of Urdu and especially Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik are playing a significant role in this direction.
Aresh Shabhai another renowned poet of the sub continent presented a critical survey of the book. He too descried the book a valuable one as it covers all the aspects of the life and poetry of the Aasi. He informs this is the beginning of Asif Malik’s writing though he appears in various News Papers through his Research Articles but the present book has proved that he have also the germs of criticism.
Iqbal Hussain Shah Editor in Chief Daily Uddan who was the Guest of Honour described Vidya Rattan Aasi a simple human being and a noble soul who through his poetry has contributed a lot for the development of Urdu language and Literature in the State. He has written the Urdu poetry keeping in view the form of Ghazal writing. He congratulated the Asif Malik for bringing out a book on a important poet who has never been encouraged by cultural academy or any Government Organization.
Prof Malik while speaking on the occasion said that Asif Malik is an intelligent scholar of the department of Urdu. He has written a number of articles for Urdu Journals which were appreciated by the readers. He had thoroughly gone through the book and found that it is master piece of work regarding Vidya Rattan Aasi.
Khalid Hussain a close friend of Vidya Rattan Aasi presided over the function. In his presidential address he congratulated the author for bringing out a book on the life and poetry of Vidya Rattan Aasi. He threw light on the works of Vidya Rattan Aasi and described him a towering Urdu poet of Jammu and Kashmir. He further informed that his poetry projected the realities of life. He is also a silent worker of Urdu language and literature.
Dr Mohd Reayz Ahmed conducted the proceeding of the Book Release function while Prof. Sukhchain Singh HOD Urdu presented a vote of thanks. It is pertinent to mention here that Asif Malik has completed his M.Phil degree under the supervision of Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik and at present is doing Ph.D under his able Guidance. The book “Aasi Shakas aur Shaiyer” has been published by Arisaha Book Publisher, New Delhi with the financial assistance of National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language, Ministry of HRD. The book contains 245 pages. Before writing this book Asif Malik was frequently writing on various subjects for various Urdu Newspapers and Journals.
Those were present include Mirza Rashid, former MP, Shri Syed Akhoon, former MLA, Nissar Khan, former minister, Khurshid Kazmi, Rahat Hussain, Assar Kishtwari, Jai Kumar Sharma, Special Secretary to VC, Faculty members, scholars, students and member of civil society.
