JCO injured in mine blast

MENDHAR, Feb 28: A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was injured today when a landmine exploded near the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati area of Poonch district, this afternoon.
The landmine exploded at Kranti Post in KG sector of Poonch district this afternoon while Subedar Kamal Singh of 3 Grenadier Regiment was cleaning the border fence in the area at around 12.30 PM. The jawan's right leg was blown off in the explosion after he inadvertently stepped over a landmine.
Hearing deafening sound of landmine explosion, his colleagues rushed to the spot. They evacuated him to Military Hospital (MH) Poonch for treatment.
Official sources said that he lost his right foot and was in critical condition.
The army planted landmines in areas where infiltration attempts are likely to be made by the militants. It was not immediately known whether the landmine injury caused to the trooper had been accidental or it was planted by intruders.
