Protesters block Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway

Demand tehsil, CD block

SRINAGAR, Feb 17: While welcoming the decision of government for creation of new administrative units-a CD Block and Niabat for Narwav area of Baramulla district, people of Sheeri and its adjoining villages blocked Srinagar Muzaffarbad road in Baramulla demanding proper location of the headquarters of these administrative units.
According to report, protesters hoisting banners and placards blocked traffic on Srinagar-Muzzafarabad highway demanding tehsil status to Narwav and location of a CD Block and Niabat at Sheeri.
People from cross section of society including public representatives, political activists from PDP, Congress and NC, heads of Masjid committees, Sarpanchs and respectable from various of the entire area assembled at Sheeri main market to press their demand of proper location of the duo administrative units and passed a resolution that both the administrative units must be headquartered at centrally located place Sheeri.
“We have major hospitals, all banks and other government institutions and offices are located at Sheeri so these two administrative units must be located here only for it would be convenient every resident of the area,” said another resident Farooq Ahmed from Audoora.
People and representatives from Kitchama, Zandafaran, Zogiyar, Gantamulla Bla, Gantamulla Payeen, Kaliban,Kitchma,Fathegarh,Heaven,Pehliharan, Malpora, Dangerpora, Kawhar,Budmulla, Aduroa,Namblan, Khal Gulistan,Naradari,Taripora, Laridora, Dangerpora participated in the protest demonstration on Srinagar-Muzzafarabad highway road and blocked traffic for hours to press their demand.
Meanwhile, complete shutdown was observed in the area to send message to government and concern quarters by Narwav Welfare Committee that Sheeri is proper location for teshil and CD Block.
Another protestor Mohammed Sultan Malikh of NWC, “We have pleaded our case everywhere and gave representation to CSC which met in Baramulla but government has not made the things clear despite knowing the location and importance of Sheeri which has rich history,” said
“If the CD Block and Naibat are located to some other place instead of Sheeri we won't allow it at any cost and massive agitation would be launched,” Mir Iqbal, vice President NWC threatened.
The protestors said that their demand was genuine and location of the duo administrative units is on logical grounds. The people also resolved to fight for teshil status of the area and establishment of fire station at Sheeri Later, Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Manzoor Ahmed Qadri visited the area pacifying the protesters.
