SRINAGAR, Apr 27: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti today expressed the apprehension that the government probe into spurious drugs scandal will not be fairly conducted.
Talking to media persons on the sidelines of a public rally in Dooru Anantnag, Mehbooba said, “I do not have any hope of the fair and proper probe into the spurious drug scam. Many big scams involving few ministers of the cabinet surfaced during the NC-Congress regime but none of them was probed fairly. So I do not expect a fair probe into the drug scam too.”
Mehbooba said that chief minister, Omar Abdullah cannot muster the courage to go for a fair probe in any scam. “Omar knows well that the level of involvement of his father in multi-crore JKCA scam and other frauds. So he cannot even think of investigating any scandal fairly as he has to handcuff his father first before thinking so,” she said.
PDP president added that some ministers of Omar cabinet have amassed huge wealth by looting the state exchequer. “It seems to be the coalition of scams only. Several ministers of Omar cabinet have accumulated huge wealth by indulging in different frauds. They are busy looting the state exchequer,” she said.
Claiming that the PDP will alone form the next government in the state, Mehbooba said, “PDP is gaining popularity in all the three regions of the state. They are fed up with the present regime and want change. The anti-people policies of NC led Congress coalition has helped us to gain the sympathy of the people in Jammu region. So as for as the mass support we are enjoying in every nook and corner of the state is concerned, we are hopeful of forming the next government alone.”
Asked whether her party in any case would like to enter into coalition with BJP for the formation of the government, Mehbooba said, “I have already said that the need to enter into coalition with any party will not arise in future. It will be single party government of PDP.”
Replying to a question on her party’s silence on the resolution moved by independent MLA, Abdul Rashid, seeking clemency for Afzal Guru in assembly last year, Mehbooba said, “PDP did not maintain silence but it was NC which rejected the resolution without allowing a discussion on it. What we could have done when the resolution was not even taken up for discussion. I was in Jaipur that time and I issued a statement from there that both Afzal Guru and Sarabjeet should be pardoned.”
Earlier while addressing the rally, Mehbooba asked Omar to stop advising India on Chinese intrusion into Indian territory. “Instead of issuing advices to central government on the issues like Chinese intrusion Omar should focus on the issues concerning the people. He should ensure the power projects with NHPC are returned to the state,” PDP president said.
She said that with the people’s support, her party can again pull the State out of the dark era of National Conference rule as was done in 2002. She said that the people of the state now yearn for Azadi from the draconic NC rule, once and for all.
“PDP is now the only voice left in Jammu and Kashmir to represent its regional aspirations as NC has lost track with the State’s ground realities and its people,” Mehbooba said.
She said that despite spiteful machinations by NC to obstruct emergence of any regional political force in the state, PDP has emerged as the most viable regional alternative to NC by not only giving voice to people’s aspirations but also delivering enviably on the governance front. It is because of its pro-people agenda that PDP has been witnessing a consistent and formidable growth across the State since its inception in 1999,”she said and added, “God willing and with the support of the people, PDP’s performance would touch new heights in the 2014 political battles in the State”.
