SRINAGAR, Feb 16: The 10 hour long traffic jam on Srinagar-Jammu National highway caused massaive inconvenience to both Jammu and Srinagar bound passengers.
Though the drivers blamed the traffic mismanagement for chaos on the road, traffic authorities said that the slippery road conditions near Patnitop and road mishap on the road led to the jam. They also blamed the drivers for causing the chaos.
Hundreds of vehicles which left Jammu for Srinagar this morning, going by the announcement of traffic authorities, were stuck in messy jamming at different places on the road. The long jamming on the road led to severe inconvenience to the passengers.
Dozens of drivers and passengers who spoke to Kashmir Times over phone complained that two way traffic on the road led to long messy jams on the road.
A driver, Bilal Ahmad, said that it was a total mess on the road which landed both passengers and drivers in trouble. "Going by the announcement about the one way traffic from Jammu to Srinagar I left
Jammu at around 9 am in the morning but am still stuck in jam near Peeda. The jam was caused as the traffic authorities also cleared Jammu bound halted vehicles despite knowing the slippery conditions of the road at different places," he said.
He said that had the traffic officials cleared the halted traffic first there would have been no chaos at all.
A passenger, Gulzar Ahmad said that he along with his family was caught up in jam from 11 AM to 6 PM.
However, traffic officials said that the slow movement of the traffic due to slippery road conditions near Patnitop caused chaos on the road. "It was slippery road near Patnitop due to the snowfall that
occurred yesterday in the area. We had to clear some Jammu bound vehicles also. Traffic movement was slow from both sides which led to chaotic situation. The road mishap near Ramban also contributed to
traffic jam as it took us two hours to rescue the injured," IG traffic, Muneer Ahmad Khan told Kashmir Times.
He also blamed the drivers for breaking the line despite knowing the condition of the road.
