‘Policy decisions taken in larger interests of movement’

SRINAGAR, Jan 13: The Hurriyat Conference (M) has said that being the representative of the peoples’ stand based on the principle of collectivism, there is no restriction on the thoughts or views of its constituent party members. However, the Hurriyat (M) has added that decisions regarding its stand or policies are taken, in the larger interest of the movement, on the basis of agreed collective view keeping in consideration the individual views of its members.
According to a statement issued here, a meeting of executive council of Hurriyat Conference (M) under the chairmanship of Mirwaiz Dr Molvi Mohammad Umar Farooq was held at Hurriyat Headquarters and was attended by Professor Abdul Ghani Bhat, Moulana Mohammad Abbas Ansari, Agha Syed Hassan Al Moosvi Al Safvi, Musadiq Adil, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza and Khalil Mohammad Khalil, the representative of Bilal Ghani Lone.
The Executive Council while taking stock of the current political and organizational affairs had a detailed deliberation on the issues faced by the movement at this juncture and discussed means and measures to bring more dynamism, strength and cohesion in the ongoing movement of Kashmiri people.
In the meeting, the Hurriyat Conference averred that it is pursuing a policy laid down in unanimously adopted Hurriyat constitution of 1993 and is working for a solution of Kashmir issue based either on the implementation of United Nations Resolutions or through a tripartite dialogue. “It is the constitutional responsibility of Hurriyat to take measures to find out a solution of Kashmir issue through United Nations resolutions or through a tripartite dialogue. It was also stated in the meeting that UN resolutions provide a solid legal basis to Kashmir dispute so it is the duty and responsibility of the world body to fulfill its obligations and keeping in view the feelings, aspirations and sacrifices of the people of Kashmir, find a solution of this long pending issue,” the statement said.
The leaders while describing the growing warmth between Pakistan and India in addressing their pending issues as a hopeful development said that Kashmir stands the core issue between the two neighbours and without its consideration on priority basis the whole engagement between the two countries would remain fragile. In presence of the Kashmir issue all other issues become of secondary importance and regarding this issue the Kashmiri’s view point is of primary importance. In the meeting it was stressed on both the countries that bilateral engagement in the past without the participation of Kashmiris has not yielded any results and is not going to do so even now.
In the meantime Chairman has expressed condolence on the demise of the paternal aunt of senior Hurriyat leader Javed Ahmad Mir and prayed for the departed soul. Expressing his deep sympathies with Javed Mir and other family members Mirwaiz has prayed that may Allah give them strength and courage to bear the loss.
