Murder accused flees from police lock up, rearrested

ANANTNAG, Mar 20:A 40 year old murder accused today fled from the police lockup at
police station Mattan. However, police immediately swung into action and rearrested him from Srigufwara area.
The accused, identified as Ghulam Nabi Bhat, son of Gul Muhammad Bhat, of Akad village was arrested by police on Saturday for allegedly stabbing his younger brother, Muhammad Shafi Bhat in a cow shed.
“The accused on Saturday evening called his brother to the cow shed seeking his help for feeding the cattle there. As soon as the deceased stepped into the cowshed, Bhat attacked him with a sharp edged weapon resulting into critical injuries on his head," said a police official. He said the accused after attacking his brother locked down the cattle shed. However, Shafi’s daughter after finding the shed locked got suspicious and raised an alarm, which attracted the attention of neighbours, who broke open the door of a shed,” the police official said.
Shafi was rushed to the hospital and was referred to SKIMS in a critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries.
Taking cognizance police registered a case under FIR number 14/ 3013 under section 302 of the RPC, following which the accused, was arrested.
Sources said the accused today gave a slip to the police men and fled from the lockup at the Mattan Police at around 4 AM in the morning.
They said the police soon swung into action and managed to nab the murder accused from Srigufwara area from his relatives house.
