Poonch continues to powerless

POONCH, Feb 7: Contrary to the tall claims of district administration regarding restoration of power supply in various parts of Poonch, various areas of the district are virtually in dark for more than twenty days after the power supply got affected due to heavy snowfall.
In the areas of Poonch where electricity was partially restored, people complained of unscheduled power cuts and supply of power for only two to three hours in a day with very dim voltage.
Today power was restored in Surankote and Mandi towns of the district but other areas are still without power and are virtually facing blackout. People of Surankote and Mandi complained that they did not got drinking water from last more than 20 days and PHE officials are blaming PDD for this erratic supply as PDD failed to provide power supply to PHE Pumping Stations.
Locals Mohammad Showkat, Salim Khan, Zahid Qureshi and Anil Kumar said that they are getting electricity for only one to two hours a day and they did not get drinking water from last more than twenty days. They said the department is not paying any heed to resolve their grievances despite their full cooperation to district administration. They threatened to launch an agitation against government if the government fails to provide electricity and drinking till Friday.
A senior officer of PDD said that today second line of 33 KV was restored and now the situation has improved. He said the department is working on war footing to restore electricity. He said that as the snow is melting, they are marching towards villages and they are trying to restore electricity to all villages as early as possible.
“Another officer of PDD said that government has handed over restoration work to Power Grid Corporation of India and after the meeting with PGC we will able of tell about the exact time of complete restoration of power in the district. It will take time near about three months.”
Fresh snowfall and storm again damaged poles and electric supply wires in this border district.
