Ready to go home..!

T'is said that the best way to judge a good holiday is whether you are ready to go home at the end of it.
I am.
Have had a wonderful ten days holiday, been wined, dined, by friends and relatives, loved and showered with gifts and now am ready to go home.
Oh yes it was fun. It's not everyday you are surrounded by childhood friends, classmates who pull your leg reminding you of times when you looked different, "You remember Bob when you and the lamppost were look alikes?"
It was fun at the wedding. I raised the toast and just before going up on stage was told that cake and wine for the toast had not been distributed as yet.
"So what do I raise the toast with?" I ask.
"Crack some jokes on stage till the wine comes," he says, "You know how good you are with your jokes!"
How was I to tell him that I had come prepared for a serious raising of the toast and jokes were the last thing on my mind. But I go up racking my brains for a joke and finding none and there on stage seeing the audience, all friends and feeling good seeing them and jokes flow till I forget my speech!
Then the house warming of another friend. The overnight trip and early morning pooja, watching the priest chanting his Sanskrit chants and nearly yawning with the left overs of sleep and then suddenly engrossed in something so ancient and mystical.
Like I said there was love and friendship, and dollops of spicy incidents.
Yesterday at the club sitting with dear friend and editor, a brigadier making overtures to pretty lady at the next table, getting rebuffed and quite shamefaced sits at ours. I watch him, he watches me, wondering whether I've heard, and seeing my blank expression warms up and gives scintillating conversation of victories won and battles fought and suddenly I see same lady looking over at the brigadier with new interest.
But today I return, with joy in my heart.
My children are not there at home, both now in the US, but my wife and dogs I know count the hours for my return. I'm not sure about the dogs, but my wife I know does.
