SRINAGAR, Jan 22: The closed coaching and tuition centres in Kashmir reopened today after a gap of four days following an order by the state government that the centres would function till students appear in common entrance test (CET) and other examinations.
An assurance was also given to the management that the teachers and students will not be subjected to any kind of harassment in future. The management of the centres has been asked to upgrade the facilities in time bound manner.
Most of the coaching and tuition centres were closed by the management after fresh harassment to the teachers and students allegedly by the authorities on the issue of registration of coaching centers and providing necessary infrastructure.
Director education and divisional commissioner Kashmir had set January 31 as the dead line for registration and providing of infrastructure. The management of the centres had appealed that the centres be allowed to function this session. According to them, the closure of the centres for creating infrastructure would waste the time of students, preparing for CET and other such tests. The students had threatened to take to streets if the centres were closed.
Chief minister Omar Abdullah also intervened into the matter and asked the authorities to allow functioning of the centres to save the time of students.
The management of centres held separate of meetings with divisional commission Dr Asgar Samoon and minister of state for home Sajjad Ahmad Kitchloo.
An official spokesman yesterday said that minister of state for home on the directions of the chief minister issued instructions to the authorities to allow for now the different coaching and tuition centres in Srinagar city to function till the students appear in various courses for the upcoming examinations.
“This decision has been taken to save the precious time of the students and also to enable the management of tuition centres to register and upgrade their infrastructure as per norms. Earlier, these institutions were closed following the directions from the authorities to get their establishments registered in the first instance. The management of these institutions had requested for granting them some time to complete these formalities,” the spokesman added.
He said a deputation of the management of various coaching and tuition centres, which had called on Kichloo in Srinagar, had pleaded that closing these centres will affect the performance of the students who are appearing in various common entrance tests and competitive examinations,
“Responding to the instructions of the chief minister and minister of state for home, the deputy commissioner, Srinagar, Baseer Ahmad khan, has issued orders for allowing these coaching centres to function till the examinations of students are held so that the students are not put to any hardships. This decision has been hailed by the students, parents and the management of the tuition centres,” the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, the tuition centres have been asked to complete their formalities in a time-bound manner so that the best possible educational facilities are extended to the students to enable them to compete at various levels.
