JAMMU, Jan 19: Panun Kashmir (PK), today observed the Holocaust Day as Black Day to register protest against the forced exodus of the Kashmiri Pandit community from their ancestral homeland Kashmir in 1990 on this day.
According to a handout, a large number of people thronged the Community Hall, Lane No 14, near Government Higher Secondary School at the Jagti Refugee camp in Nagrota. The protestors were wearing black badges and black head gears to express their resentment against the continued policy of the denial of genocide of the Kashmiri Pandit community. Speaking on the occasion, PK Chairman Dr. Ajay Chrungoo said, “More than two decades of forced exile from our ancestral homeland in independent and secular India, which is our Motherland establishes beyond doubt that the secular and democratic model of the Indian nation has remained insulated from the state of Jammu and Kashmir and that is why the KPs were denied their right to life and limb in Kashmir.”
“Return and rehabilitation of the community in the Kashmir valley is not possible without addressing the causes of killings of the community and their settlement is possible only with the creation of Homeland in Kashmir with the free flow of the Indian constitution and the union territory status as envisaged in the Margdarshan Resolution adopted by the community unanimously in exile in 1991,” he added.
Highlighting the problems being faced by the camp dwellers and the failure of the so called Apex committee, the community leader from Jagti camp B.L. Bhat said, “Jagti camp has been reduced to a concentration camp by unleashing the atrocities on the similar lines on the inmates as in the Jewish concentration camps so that the people are forced to toe the line of the mercenaries.”
Proceedings of the programme were started by co-ordinator Chand Ji Pandits, Jagti and the entire programme was conducted by social activist PL. Raina. Vote of thanks was delivered by Nagrota Jagti Camp co-ordinator Sanjay Raina.
