SRINAGAR, Jan 13 : The management of the tuition and coaching centres today cautioned the state government against politicising the registration issue and playing with the future of thousands of students.
Talking to media persons G N War, president of coaching centres association, said they are not against the registration of their centres and providing of more infrastructure. “We need more time for registration and more infrastructure. The state government yesterday set January 31 as a dead line for registration. We need more time,” he added.
War revealed that over 33,000 students are presently studying in 550 coaching and tuition centres across the Valley. “The government crack down on the centres would mar their future. This is like playing with the fire. We are very much concerned over the timing chosen by the authorities to initiate registration process at this stage of the academic session,” he added.
War said the coaching centre association does not doubt the good intent of this measure yet they consider it a ill timed step in light of the fact that the session is underway and the students are coming in terms with the new examination pattern of NEET, JEE (mains / advanced) and ISEET. “Coaching centres should be allowed to complete the remaining syllabus and these new measures should not affect the session of 2013 which has already commenced,” he added.
The president of the association appealed the authorities to extend the deadline till the end of the current academic session (till April).
War stated that the coaching and tuition centres are providing parallel education in Kashmir.” The education and other departments have forgotten their responsibilities. They are interfering in other matters just divert the attention. If government wants to act as a silent spectator in the field of education, that does not mean that we too will watch it mutely. The students have no option available except for the tution and coaching centres for appearing in competitive examinations,” he said.
When contacted, Director education Mohammad Shafi Rather ruled out extending the deadline for registration beyond January 13. “However, for providing more infrastructure, the time can be extended.”
