KT NEWS SERVICE. Dated: 11/6/2012 11:01:26 PM
SRINAGAR, Nov 6: Normal work in government offices in Kashmir was paralysed due to a two day pen down strike, which began today. However, essential services including health, power and water supply were exempted from the strike
A protest march was taken out from CAPD office at Shaheed Gunj to the neighbouring office of deputy commissioner Srinagar.
The employees were carrying banner and placards in their hands and shouting slogans against the state government. The protest march was lead by the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) leader Farooq Ahmad Trali and others.
The employees were demanding that the government should fully implement the agreement signed by their leaders and state government last year.
However, the protest rally ended peacefully near deputy commissioner’s office. The employees presented a memorandum to the deputy commissioner.
Most of the government offices wore a deserted look as the employees did not attend usual work in summer capital. Reports of strike were also received from Baramulla, Kupawara, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Budgam, Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian, Kulgm and other district and tehsil headquarters of the Valley.
The EJCC had called for two day pen down strike in support of their demands, including payment of sixth pay commission arrears, regularization of daily wagers and contractual employees who have completed seven years in service, increase in the retirement age from 58 years to 60 years, removal of pay anomalies and settlement of grievances of public sector employees, ReTs, Anganwari workers, and regularization and promotion of different cadres.
