Fast paced meters in the city

Dear Editor,
While the efforts on the part of the Electricity Department in installing the Meters are commendable, it has brought out its own set of problems. In most of the regions in the city, it has been noticed that after their installation, electricity bills increased in manifold ways. Obviously, this has been due to the fast moving calibrating instruments inside these Meters. Often, this results in tampering with them by the commoners who wish to avoid the hefty bills at any cost.
The move by the department has its own loopholes which need to be plugged and not to go to the extreme lengths, the way it is gong now. True, that the revenues matter, but inconveniences of the consumers have to borne in mind, especially in these testing times of extreme financial fluctuations across the country. Our State isn’t also an exception and as such, methods should be introduced which are in the favor of the consumers and at the same time generate fair amount of revenue for the department. The pace of these Meters needs to be re-set once again, so that the consumers aren’t able to tamper with them on their own.
