Traffic patrols a welcome step

Dear Editor,
The announcement of traffic patrols along the crucial points on the roads is indeed a welcome step inasmuch the increasing number of facilities are concerned. It was a long pending demand of the people everywhere and was understandable because of the obvious. Late in its initiation, however it will prove beneficial to the commuters and drivers of the vehicles on the roads.
The state of the roads becomes all the more important due to Jammu and Kashmir being a fragile eco-system, whereby the latter, especially in the upper mountain tracts often give away. Recently, a number of accidents occurred along the National Highway passing through some of the toughest stretches, which have been rendered dangerous due the continuous wear and tear by the elements. Nevertheless, well done is half the battle won in the case of road maintenance.
