Cabinet approves enhancement of DA by 8% for employees

SRINAGAR, MAY 15: In an important decision, the state cabinet today accorded sanction to enhance the Dearness Allowance to state government employees by eight percent.

The state cabinet which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at Civil Secretariat here at 12.30 PM decided to enhance an installment of Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees, state pensioners, and family pensioners from 72 percent to 80 percent from January 1, 2013.

The cabinet also decided that the DA arrears with effect from January 2013 to April 2013 will be paid in cash to the state government employees in May 2013.

The cabinet also gave its clearance to much awaited decision to various small road and other projects proposed in various forest divisions, after studying the Supreme Court rulings over it. The cabinet finally gave its clearance to these stretches of forest land in various forest divisions for undertaking several developments.

The proposed projects including construction Gandala to Jakhar Road, Delhar to Amroh, Sulgar to Ruabagh, Nabna to Chungan, Majva to Resan etc, 400 KV S/C Uri-II to Wagoora Transmission Line, 400 KV D/C Kishanpur New Wanpoh Qazigund Transmission Line, University campuses at Wuyan, Kupwara and Bagla Samba, Parnai Hydro Electric Project, Railway Tunnel T-I of Udhampur-Katra section, Morh Tunnel from Gagangeer to Shitkari on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri National Highway, Naigund Canal in Kishtwar.

The cabinet also discussed the relief and rehabilitation programme undertaken by the state Administration in the earthquake hit areas of Doda and Kishtwar areas. The ministers also discussed the progress on distribution of relief and rehabilitation of Rs 25 crores for earthquake victims and three months free ration to the affected families already announced by them.

The cabinet expressed satisfaction over the ongoing relief and rehabilitation programme initiated by them and distribution of tents and other necessary equipments to the affected people to protect themselves from inclement weather.

The cabinet also took stock of the arrangements for smooth conduct of Amarnath Yatra commencing from June 28. The cabinet also decided to ask the concerned departments to work with coordination and enthusiasm to put in place all the arrangements

The cabinet also stressed for adequate stocks of essentials, medicare facilities and ensuring cleanliness en-route stations to the Cave. The ministers also directed for clearance of track from Pahalgam as well as Baltal sides before May 25 and asked for better communication facilities to be made available at all the stations.

The state cabinet, however, did not touch the postings and promotions in police department to avoid any further fresh controversy after the cabinet failed to reach out to any consensus in their previous two meetings.

Several ministers in the ruling coalition, National Conference and Congress are supporting the postings of their desired senior superintendents of police in their respective districts. The chief minister called off the previous cabinet meetings when various ministers exchanged hot words over the posting of some police officers.

During today’s cabinet meeting, the present law and order was also discussed. The cabinet expressed satisfaction over the measures taken by the government to maintain law and order situation and to keep the ongoing tourist season incident free.
