SRINAGAR, Nov 24: JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik today said that government of India and international community must respect the human rights of Kashmiris.
He was addressing a public meeting at Arihal in Pulwama. “Human rights are alike for all humans. India and other world countries who are today raising their voices for the human rights of Tamils, should also listen to the cries of the humans in Jammu and Kashmir,” Malik said.
He stated that Jammu and Kashmir dispute is constantly posing a threat to the lasting peace, stability and welfare of the subcontinent and the world. Putting it on the back burner or shying away from solving it on priority will actually jeopardise the peace and stability of the world and one cannot but term it as foolish.
Malik said that after the twin tower attacks in United States, USA and the whole world was committed to resolving all pending disputes that are the main cause of violence and violent approaches. Kashmiris also on the continued persuasion of the international community especially USA and UK transformed their struggle and made a historic transition from violent to non-violent mode of struggle from 2008.
“After doing this, Kashmiris were of the opinion that international community will fulfill its obligations and pledges and efforts will be made to resolve the dispute on Jammu Kashmir. But instead of respecting the positive transition of Kashmiri’s India started a worst oppression against this peaceful movement,” he said.
“Hundreds of our innocents were killed from 2008 to 2010 and thousands faced and are still facing jails, tortures and hospitals .but the international community watched this oppression as silent spectators and never fulfilled its obligations and pledges visa-vise Kashmiris,” Malik. He added that this is ironical that Indian prime minister refuses to visit Sri Lanka and evades a meeting of commonwealth country heads saying that Sri Lankan government has abused the human rights of Tamils in Jaffna etc but does not look into what is being done by his forces in Jammu Kashmir to suppress the voices of Kashmiri people. Even the Prime Minister of UK David Cameron, the country that left Indian subcontinent with this dispute on Jammu Kashmir, also issued strong statements in this regard and emphasizes on the impartial probe of these human rights abuses by Sri Lankan governments. “He too has maintained criminal silence on the human rights abuses in Kashmir. This double standard cannot work and will have to be changed. Human rights are alike for all and we Kashmiris do support the human rights of all suppressed nations including the oppressed Tamils in Sri Lanka,” he said.
“But India and the international community should introspect its role and approach regarding the human rights of Kashmiris too and economical and trade relations must not become a barrier while upholding the high values of human rights of humans in Jammu Kashmir. If this discriminatory attitude remains as such, world will become more and more dangerous and vulnerable,” JKLF chairman said.
Malik hoped that India and the international community will one day realize their mistakes and change their ignorant attitude and the dispute of Jammu Kashmir will be solved peacefully according to the aspirations, wishes, sacrifices and with active involvement of the people of Jammu and Kashmir
