SRINAGAR, Aug 17: The deputy commissioner (DC) Shopian investigating the mysterious death of a tanker driver in CRPF camp last month may also exonerate the CRPF personnel in the case.
A youth Aqib Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Yousuf Bhat of Balpora Shopian died in mysterious circumstances in CRPF camp after he went there with a water tanker last month. Though the family
alleged that Aqib was killed by the CRPF men following an altercation with them inside the camp but the police, exonerating the CRPF men, said that the death was an accident. However, state human rights
commission taking serious note of the allegations directed the DC Shopian to investigate the case independently without relying on the police report.
Sources said that DC Shopian during the preliminary investigations has not found anything which suggests that death has been caused by beating. “Nothing concrete has come out of the initial
investigations which could suggest beating by death. The investigations so far only suggest that the death is purely accidental,” said the sources.
DC Shopian, Mohammad Javed Khan, also ruling out the murder, said that the death seams to be accidental. “We are investigating the case thoroughly. But so far during the investigations nothing suggests that the death has been caused by beating. The death of the youth seems to be an
accident only. But even then we are investigating the case,” DC said.
