Masked gunmen rob JK Bank in Pulwama

SRINAGAR, Oct 28: A group of armed men today looted cash from a Jammu and Kashmir Bank in south Kashmir Pulwama district today.
Reports and officials said that a group of four armed men at around 1pm in the afternoon entered the JK bank branch Rohmoo and looted cash worth lakhs of rupees from there.
“The armed men wearing masks after entering into the bank made both officials and customers who were present there hostage. After displaying their guns they asked the officials on duty to remain aside and even directed the customers not to move out of the branch. Then they straight way drove to the cash counter and picked up all the cash from there,” reports said.
They said that the gun men while fleeing from the spot fired several warning shots.
“As the people started shouting at them and following them outside they (Armed men) fired several shots chasing away the people.
Meanwhile they stopped a Tata Mobile which was coming from the opposite direction and fled in the same,” eyewitnesses said.
After the incident, reports said, top police officials reached the spot and the area was cordoned off by the forces to nab the armed robbers.
SSP Pulwama, Amit Kumar, said that according to the bank officials the robbers decamped with Rs 2,80,434.
“After robbery the gunmen forcibly stopped a Tata Mobile and fled. We have recovered the Tata mobile and the driver is being questioned,” SSP said. He said that FIR has been lodged with regard to the incident and the investigations are on.
On the hand of militants in the robbery, SSP said, “It is too early to say anything about it. We are investigating the case and things will come to fore during the course of investigation.”
Meanwhile, a top JK Bank official wishing anonymity said that they have initiated inquiry into the incident.
“A committee comprising of the top officials has been constituted to inquire into the incident. The committee has been asked to submit the report within a couple of days,” the bank official said.
