4 docs, 5 health officials suspended for irregularities in Reasi

JAMMU, Oct 28: Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, today attached 4 doctors and placed 5 officials of health department under suspension for no attended a patient resulting in his death and series of irregularities and malpractices adopted by the officials posted at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Banna in Mahore tehsil of Reasi district.
Dr Mohammad Ismail, Dr Rekha Soan, Dr Ajaz Ahmed Lone and Dr Arshad Hussain have been attached with the office Chief Medical Officer after preliminary inquiry found them guilty of misconduct and unauthorised absence from duties.
Meanwhile, Sunita Kumari, Abdul Hamid, Nanak Chand, Suraj Prakash, Daleep Singh and Karnail Singh have been placed under suspension with immediate effect. CMO Reasi Dr Mohammad Younus has been asked for making immediate alternate arrangements at PHC Banna.
On October 23, Deputy Commissioner received a telephonic complaint from Panchayat Banna about death of a child, who was rushed to PHC for treatment but the hospital was found locked. BMO Mahore Dr Rashpal Singh was rushed to spot for post-mortem of the deceased and inspection as well as inquiry about state of affairs at PHC. CMO Reasi, meanwhile, deputed a special team to the spot.
The enquiry officer found that all the doctors were absent from duty and have not attended the hospital for more than ten days in a row. The inpatient department and outpatient department registers were also not maintained, nor any kind of immunisation and stock register were filled up. The supporting staff including FMPHW, BHO, NOs and helpers also did not attend to their duties. BMO in his report recommended termination of services of doctors.
Taking a serious note of the lapse on part of health officials so indicted in the inquiry report, the doctors were attached and further action being initiated against them while the remaining staff was placed under suspension.
The DC has also asked the Assistant Commissioner Development to issue show cause notice to the Sarpanch to explain why the absenteeism in PHC was reported to the authorities even after clear instructions from the administration in a series of meetings held recently and inspection of health centers being a part of RFD implemented from this month which is being observed in letter and spirit in all parts of district.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is making alternative arrangement of doctors and paramedical staff at PHC Banna.
In another similar report received from PHC Gotta in Mahore the Deputy Commissioner has asked CMO to thoroughly probe into the matter based on inquiry report of BMO and recommend necessary action.
