IBF does not have any validly appointed officers: AIBA
ActIT Jammu, Projects, Java,, C# Training Jammu
NEW DELHI, Oct 22(Agencies): Livid with the suspended Indian Boxing Federation`s antics, International Boxing Association (AIBA) President Ching Kuo-Wu has said the world body will now work with the IOA to "get to a position where it will be possible to hold new elections" for the IBF.

In a sternly-worded missive after receiving information about the suspended IBF`s plan to hold an Annual General Meeting on November 9, Wu has stated that the IBF "does not have any validly appointed officers" at the moment.

"Since the September 2012 IABF AGM and Elections, AIBA has worked to try and find a way forward for boxing in India. The process has become increasingly difficult due to the opposing positions adopted by various factions within the IABF," Wu said in a letter, which has, among others, also been addressed to India`s representative in the AIBA Executive Committee member Kishen Narsi.

"There is an obvious reluctance on the part of these groups to work together. Thus, it is now clear to AIBA that we will need to work with the Indian Olympic Association in order to reach a solution and to get to a position where it will be possible to hold new elections.

"As you are aware, the IOA is currently experiencing its own difficulties and has been suspended by the International Olympic Committee. Until such time as the IOC suspension of the IOA is lifted, AIBA will no longer take any further action in relation to the IABF," he added.

The letter comes in the wake of the IBF Secretary General Rajesh Bhandari`s mail to all the state units calling for an AGM on November 9 here.

The units opposing the current IBF set-up wrote to AIBA seeking a clarification, prompting the world body to issue a fresh rejoinder on its position.

"For the avoidance of doubt, we would like to point out that AIBA`s position is that it presently no longer recognises the administration that was in place prior to the September 2012 elections or the administration purportedly elected at the September 2012 elections," Wu has written in his letter marked to all top office-bearers of the AIBA.

The IBF was suspended last year for "possible manipulation" in its elections. The world body asked the IBF to adopt an amended constitution and hold a re-election, setting a December 4 deadline for it.

"Effectively, as far as AIBA is concerned, the IABF does not have any validly appointed officers. Finally, in relation to applications regarding the participation of Indian boxers in international competitions, requests should be made to AIBA exclusively by Mr Kishen Narsi, AIBA EC Member and by no one else," said Wu.

The IBF right now is a divided house which was reflected in the informal conclave held by 17 of its state units earlier this month. The disgruntled units have demanded free and fair elections in the presence of an AIBA observer.

The furore stared last year when Abhishek Matoria, a Rajasthan BJP MLA, was elected as President of the IBF. His name was proposed by outgoing head Abhey Chautala, who happened to be Matoria`s brother-in-law.

Recently, Matoria`s position was questioned by the Rajasthan State Boxing Association as well which claimed that he was not its member at the time of his election.
