Internet services affected in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, April 13: The internet services remained adversely affected in Kashmir valley since last evening due to technical snag in optical fiber of BSNL in Jammu region.

The subscribers ranging from journalists to businessmen, insurance agents to bankers had to face serious problems due to the technical snag in optical fiber.

The government run BSNL has lakhs of its customers in Kashmir and they had to face series problem due technical snag in optical fiber.

The subscribers complained that GPRS and Broadband services remained suspended since last evening and it caused serious inconvenience to them.

“Our entire business depends upon internet services. Since yesterday evening we are disconnected with our customers outside state, said a leading business house manager in Srinagar.

The repeated technical snag in the internet services of BSNL in valley has become a cause of concern for the subscribers with many among them seriously thinking to shift to other service providers.

“There are other internet private service providers who are giving better services than the BSNL. When we are paying for the services, why should we use the service, which repeatedly disconnects,” the trader said.

The subscribers also said that either the company should increase the bandwidth to make the service faster or bring down the rates. “Otherwise we will be forced to surrender the device and shift to some other service,” they said.

Many of subscribers said that BSNL is doing well in outside state, but they have taken the subscribers of the valley for granted. “The company is doing well outside Kashmir but here the company is showing a careless approach to avoid these repeated snags. Instead of responding to the complaints of subscribers, they usually not responding to the phones,” said another subscriber.

The subscribers in Ganderbal, Anantnag, Badgam, Baramulla, Sopore and other towns of the kashmir valley also complained that GPRS in mobile phones had stopped working since yesterday evening.

They also said that due to non- functioning of internet service, they are virtually disconnected without side state.

When contacted, Deputy General Manager, BSNL Nazir Ahmad told the Kashmir Times that due to technical snag in optical fiber, the 2G and 3G services in the entire state have been affected.

The deputy General manager said that BSNL officials are on job to restore the services and they are hopeful that the internet services would be restored till this evening.

“The internet service was running smooth in Kashmir but there was some technical problem with certain devices in optical fiber and it would be restored today,” he said.
