Floriculture among priorities of Govt: Peerzada

SRINAGAR, Apr 13: Minister for Hajj, Auqaf, Public Enterprises and Floriculture, Peerzada Mohammad Syed today emphasized introducing the latest technology in all productive sectors like agriculture, horticulture and floriculture aiming at increasingly the socio-economic conditions of the farming community, adding that this is the only key source to ensure prosperity of the State in general and farming community in particular.

This was stated by the Minister at a function organized by the Directorate of Floriculture department Kashmir Division here today held in connection with the distribution of cheques among the registered progressive growers.

The Minister said that the centre is providing liberal funding under core sectors like health, education, public works department, power development department, agriculture, horticulture and floriculture but need is to utilize them in full by preparing Detailed Project Reports of the developmental projects.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister of State for Floriculture, Agriculture and Horticulture Nazir Ahmad Gurezi said that the floriculture is among the priorities of Government and urged for evincing keen interest in these sector for bringing change in the life style of people. He appealed the growers to avail benefits from the schemes launched by the Government.

He said Government has launched several Centre and State sponsored schemes with a aim to uplift the farming community adding that focused attention is being given to promote the floriculture sector as it has a huge potential in the State of Jammu and Kashmir but need is to channelize it in a proper way. He said the government is also focused to providing hi-yielding seeds to the farmers but need is to cultivate cash crops.

Later, Peerzada and Gurezi distributed cheques worth Rs.68.49 crore amongst registered progressive growers to add to the efficiency of flower growers under floriculture sector in Kashmir division.
