JAMMU/NEW DELHI, Oct 21 (Agencies): Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde Monday said he will visit the Samba sector of the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir Tuesday following ceasefire violations by Pakistan.
"I am going to Samba sector on (Oct) 22 to see the situation," Shinde said today.
Several incidents of violation of ceasefire have been reported from the Samba sector recently.
The home minister also said that firm steps are being taken to control infiltration.
"We have lots of information of infiltration attempts, but the way government of India has been taking firm steps against terrorism, they are not able to infiltrate deep," Shinde said.
"There are a few spots from where they enter, our posts are keeping an eye on such areas," he said.
Sunday night, 13 posts of the Border Security Force (BSF) were targeted by Pakistani fire.
Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde will visit forward posts in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday to review the situation there in light of the continuous violations of the 2003 ceasefire accord.
Official sources said that he will land at Samba and visit BSF Headquarter where he will be apprised about the present border scenario. From there he is expected to visit Police Station Hiranagar where 4 cops were killed in fidayeen attack. He is also expected to meet Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and top security officials of both state and central governments to take stock of the situation in the state. Shinde is also expected to visit some villages along the border during his day-long visit to the state.
On Friday night, at least 14 Indian posts and civilian areas were subject to firing, prompting the BSF which comes under the ambit of the Home Ministry to lodge complaints with their counterparts, the Pakistan Rangers.
On Saturday, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid had asserted that these violations were not an issue of diplomacy but also of military relations.
