We Lost..!
By Robert Clements
With so much talk going on about match fixing, I look at all these cricket matches with a lot of skepticism and it gave me no surprise when my very vivid imagination heard this imaginary conversation coming from wives of imaginary cricketers one day as I crept behind a bench and heard them talking:

"Can you believe it," laughed the stylish wife of a senior cricketer as she sat in her red Mercedes, outside the cricket stadium, where the match was being played and looked at the wife of one of one her husband's team mates, "people think these matches are fixed!"

'How could they say that,' exclaimed her colleague as she casually picked up her ringing cellular and answered a call from Dubai.

"Accusations, accusations!" sighed the wife of the third cricketer, sitting in the backseat and examining her flashing diamond rings with interest.

'Your husband will soon be back,' said the same wife of the senior cricketer as she looked with a smile in the direction of the stadium.

'Mine said he would return after the fifth over,' said the other wife of the other senior cricketer.

"That's correct," said a junior wife opening a piece of paper and looking at it, "He will be back after the fifth over."

"Mine said he would be back after the third ball of the eighth over," said her colleague again picking up the mobile as it rang.

"The fourth ball of the eighth over," said the junior wife correcting her.

"Oh I hope he remembers!" said her corrected colleague.

"I forgot when my husbands supposed to return," said the third wife now closely examining the diamonds on her toes.

"I wrote it down for you to give him," said the junior wife a little concerned.

"Yes, I know," said the third wife quickly, "I saw him practicing being caught behind the wicket the whole of yesterday."

"Ah that catch is going to make you very rich," said the junior wife a little enviously.

"Come on girls we better get ready to start moving," said the latest wife of the senior cricketer reviving up her engine, as she realized that there was a hushed silence from the direction of the stadium. "They will be here any moment!"

The silence was broken by the sounds of booing as three men in white, bats in hand, and grins plastered on their faces came running towards their wives, 'We managed to lose,' they shouted with glee in unison.

"Can we buy another Mercedes?" asked the wife of the cricketer in the red Mercedes.

"Not one, but a dozen..!" whispered her husband, as she zoomed away, followed by the other wives with their husbands and the fading sound of boos in the distance.
