Hurriyat (G) warns against Geelani’s house arrest
SRINAGAR, Aug 15: The Hurriyat Conference (G) today has warmed the Government against keeping its chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani in continuous detention and asked government remove cordon outside his residence.

“Geelani Sahab would offer Jumat-ul-Wida at Masjid Bait-ul-Muqaram Baramulla and he would offer Eid prayer at Dargah Hazratabal. He would address people on both the occasions,” Tehreek Hurriyat statement said here. It asked government to remove cordon outside the residence of Geelani so that he could perform his religious obligations.

The Hurriyat condemned detention of Geelani and said the Government was now completely exposed. “The coward Government has fear free movement of Geelani and keep him under house arrest without court orders,” Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar said. He said the Chief Minister fears that presence of 7.5 lakh Army and police personnel cannot save him from Geelani. He said continuous detention of Geelani has completely exposed this government and its claims. “Had they been real representatives of people they should not have been in fear of Geelani,” he said.

Akbar said Government should face political challenge of Geelani politically rather than resorting to tricks of keeping him under house arrest.

The Hurriyat felicitated people for observing complete shutdown on August 15. “It indicates that Azadi sentiment of people is alive and kicking. The strike is only option to show our resentment on such occasions,” Akbar said.
