SRINAGAR, Aug 14: A multi-course mutton meal with ferni as dessert is part of the army’s iftar diplomacy to sweeten the bitter relations with public in Jammu and Kashmir.
From Srinagar to Kupwara to Jammu, the local army units are playing hosts this Ramzan in a bid to win the hearts and minds of the people.
Leading the charge is the general officer commanding (GoC) 15 corps Lieutenant General Om Prakash who is attending most of the iftar parties organised by army in different parts of the valley.
“Officers representing various states and religions felicitate the guests and share the multi-ethnic and multi –religious spirit towards celebrating the sacred month of fasting and festivity,” said Lieutenant Colonel JS Brar, defence spokesman at Srinagar.
Iftar parties are not restricted to cities alone. The army has taken the initiative to the remote and sensitive border areas of Kashmir and Jammu too. People from different strata of society are invited to the local camps where they are treated to a sumptuous dinner. The army ensures that the imam is present on this occasion so that people can offer namaz after breaking the fast. The army has organised iftar parties even in Muslim minority areas of Jammu.
