2 die, 9 injured in Kishtwar mishap

KISHTWAR, Oct 19: In yet another tragic road accident in erstwhile Doda district, two precious lives were lost and nine others were injured today when a Tavera car met with an accident near Chatroo in Kishtwar district.
At around 12 noon a Tavera car bearing registration number JK03C-0744 was on its way from Viloo Srinagar to Kishtwar, rolled 200 meter down on the National Highway II near Chatroo, some 30 kilometers from Kishtwar town. The local people and Chatroo police team headed by SHO Farooq Ahmed Khateeb immediately rushed to the spot for rescuing victims of the accident.
As per police reports, two persons died on spot and eight passengers, with injuries were admitted in PHC Chatroo and serious injured ones were shifted in District Hospital Kishtwar.
The dead have been identified as Ghulam Hussain Dar son of Mohammad Shafi Dar of Seri Doda and Musarat Begum wife of Mushtaq Ahmed of Arhal Kokernag Srinagar.
The injured has been identified as Sanjay, son of Jeeta Chand of Chhattisgarh, Anand son of Dolu Ram of Chhattisgarh, Gita Ram son of Dasehra of Chhattisgarh, Mushtaq Ahmed son of Ghulam Qadir of Arhal Kokernag (his wife died), Asma Banoo daughter of Ismaeil Gujjar of Seal Doda, Zeina Begum wife of Ali Mohammad of Kokernag, Jumma son of Abdullah of Kakerwagan Chatroo, Mohammad Shafi son of Mohammad Rajab of Kulgam Srinagar.
Meanwhile, former Congress Minister and MLA Inderwal G M Saroori have expressed shock and grief over the tragic accident on Kishtwar-Chatroo road.
“In recent times state is marred by road accidents, particularly in hilly areas of the J&K. Despite tall claims by administration of safeguarding the lives of innocent people, the accidents keep occurring time after time,” Saroori added.
Also the paucity of traffic police presence is also a factor in the erstwhile Doda district as there is only few traffic check posts. Till there is a concerted effort from the concerned authorities, these type of incidents will keep on occurring, Saroori said
Conveying his condolences Saroori expressed deep sympathy and solidarity with the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
Saroori who was also in Chatroo when heard rushed to the PHC Chatroo and issued instructions to the doctors of PHC Chatroo and District Hospital Kishtwar for taking extra care to the injured and ensuring all possible treatment to the injured, he added. He also prayed for the early recovery of those injured in the accident.
