BHADERWAH Oct 17: Two more fresh tremors rock Bhaderwah and its adjoining areas early this morning.
The quake, measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale hit the areas around 5.40 AM today, MeT officials said, adding that the epicentre of the quake was 40 kms south-west of Bhaderwah area. No immediate report of any casualty or injury was reported from anywhere, the officials said.
Since May this year, Bhaderwah and its adjoining areas have felt 49 tremors.
As per locals, the first tremor of low intensity hit the area at about 3 AM and second at 5.03 AM. After the second tremor, people rushed out of their houses in the morning cold weather condition for shelter and spent few hours under an open sky with their families and children.
A local resident, Amarjeet Singh said that it is a routine affair as tremors often come after a gap of three or four days. “Our houses developed cracks and we are living in these unsafe houses from of May 1 this year. We are terrified and if one more earthquake of mild or high intensity comes there will be huge loss of lives in the erstwhile Doda because maximum number of houses are already damaged,” he added.
Another local Neeraj Kumar said that they are forced by the administration to live in the damaged and unsafe houses because no facilities have been provided by the government or local administration. Government has given only assurance to the affected people that central government has given 334 crores relief package to the erstwhile district Doda. But reality is that only 150 tents were distributed to those who were not much affected by the quake but were associated with political people.
