Kashmiris want cooperation not confrontation between India, Pak: Mirwaiz

SRINAGAR, Oct 16: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, today said Kashmiris want cooperation not confrontation between India and Pakistan.
He said that the past seven decades of tension between the two nations have only led to worsening of situation and have not in any way proved helpful in solving the Kashmir issue.
Mirwaiz was addressing an Eid congregation at Jamia Masjid here. Hurriyat (M) chairman was allowed to offer Eid prayers at Jamia Masjid after two years.
He viewed that the solution of Kashmir issue was pre-cursor to any improvement of relations between India and Pakistan.
Mirwaiz urged the government of India to make efforts to create a conducive atmosphere for resolution of Kashmir issue through result oriented and meaningful negotiations. Then only a movement forward can be expected.
He strongly favoured an end to bloodshed in Kashmir release of prisoners and lifting of restrictions on freedom of opinion Hurriyat (M) chairman stated that Kashmiri aspirations for freedom could not be suppressed on gunpoint or by force for too long.
Mirwaiz paid rich tributes to Kashmiri prisoners lodged in various jails in and outside Kashmir.
