SRINAGAR, Sep 21: Senior PDP leader and deputy chief minister Muzaffar Hussain Beig today ruled out the possibility of involvement of militants in the killings of Panches and Sarpanches. He claimed that the killings are a result of some political conspiracy.
“I am sure these killings are a part of a political game, which we will reveal to people of the state at an appropriate time,” the PDP leader told a local news agency, KNS. Calling upon the bureaucracy to remain politically impartial while delivering their duties, Beig said they (officers) should exhibit farsightedness while conducting their day to day work. “Bureaucrats are the backbone of a state and they should ensure impartiality while discharging their duties. Some officers are behaving like agents of the National Conference and one lobby is engaged in anti-PDP activities. They should remain farsighted and stop being partial,” he but added that his party does not believe in politics of vendetta.
The PDP leader said the chief minister Omar Abdullah has lost moral authority to hold ministers of his cabinet accountable for their misdeeds. “If he asks a question of a minister found involved in corruption from either the NC or the Congress, they would remind him about allegations of involvement in murder of NC worker Syed Yousuf.
“What else can we call him but a weak chief minister,” he said, adding, “how come he could hold any of his ministers accountable.”
Reiterating his party’s claim of forming the next government in the state, the former deputy chief minister said people all across the state have become fed up with National Conference. “Wherever we go, people curse National Conference which clearly indicates that they (people) will not vote for them. Many popular leaders belonging to NC, BJP and Congress are joining PDP in Jammu region and many of these leaders have bagged 12 to 14 thousand votes in the previous elections.”
Claiming that there were too many candidates for one vacant cabinet berth for National Conference, Beig said the Congress cannot compel Omar for cabinet expansion in view of factionalism in the Congress party. “There are four candidates for the cabinet berth in NC
which include Dr Mustafa Kamal, Mir Saifullah, Choudhary Ramzan and Sajjad Kichloo. They can not afford to offend any of them. This is like the proverbial ‘ek anaar so bemaar’ situation,” he added.
