Teenager tortured in police custody
KT NEWS SERVICE
JAMMU, Oct 2: A teenager was seriously injured after being allegedly tortured by Special Investigation Team (SIT) in custody at Kishtwar.

The SIT is investigating the cases pertaining to riots, arson and loot that took place in Kishtwar in August 2013.

According to Babita Devi, sister of the teenaged boy Ajay Kumar, 16, son of Sewa Ram of Begana (Kishtwar), the SIT members lifted the victim from his house last week. They kept him in their custody without showing any arrest for at-least six days.

“He was mentally and physically tortured in custody by the SIT members who wanted him to name some youth of particular community for violence before the court. They (SIT) wanted the victim to name some youth to which he denied,” Babita Devi claimed while talking to media persons at Kishtwar, adding that he was brutally tortured in custody resulting in serious injuries to him.

The SIT members released the boy yesterday at 3 PM when he was critical, Babita alleged, adding that he was shifted to District Hospital Kishtwar. Today he was referred to Government Medical College (GMC) hospital for advanced treatment.

Police denied commenting upon the whole episode.
