‘Majority of mainstream parties not receiving money from army, Cong to decide Mir’s fate’

SRINAGAR, Sep 25: Breaking his silence, chief minister Omar Abdullah today urged the central government to come clean on the Gen V K Singh related issue and probe the matter thoroughly. He alleged that the allegation of former chief that ministers have been receiving money from army has tarnished the image of mainstream parties.
Talking to media persons on the sidelines of a function here, Omar said majority of mainstream parties and leaders including National Conference and his ministers have not received money from army.
About the political fate of agriculture minister Ghulam Hassan Mir, Omar said since the former is a Congress minister in the government, he has taken up his issue with Congress leadership and left the decision to them.
“As far as the issue related to Gen Singh is concerned my government as well as my party has expressed serious concern over what he has said. I do not call them as revelations, I call them accusations. I believe these accusations cannot be dismissed. It requires further investigation,” chief minister said.
“This matter has been taken up formally by me with government of India for further action. Beyond that it is not appropriate for me to talk about the issue,” he added.
Chief Minister viewed that efforts have been made to paint negatively the mainstream political parties, which is extremely unfortunate. “Most of us have no financial assistance from the Army. But these statements and accusations only cause us great difficulty here and the general has done nothing but an untold problem for mainstream parties particularly those operating in Kashmir valley,” Omar said.
He alleged that mainstream leadership is being looked upon with suspicion which is unfair. “Majority of the politicians have no financial dealing with army. The accusations that all the ministers have taken money from army, I think government of India should initiate a thread bare inquiry and the findings should be shared with us,” chief minister said.
About the action taken against Ghulam Hassan Mir, chief minister said that he is Congress minister. “I have talked about his issue with Congress leadership. Let them decide what they will do against the Ghulam Hassan Mir,” he said.
Chief Minister also refused to comment on the accusations of former army chief that he is aware about the money given to ministers for maintaining peace, “I will not comment on the issue,” he said.
He also refused to comment on the reports about tapping of his phones by army.
