JAMMU, APRIL 2: Terming National Conference-Congress coalition government as directionless regime, patron of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today observed that both the parties (National Conference and Congress) had entered into alliance without formulating any programme or policy to run the government.
Addressing an impressive gathering of the people at Brahman Sabha, in the heart of the Jammu city today, Mufti observed that despite running a coalition government National Conference and Congress don’t have consensus on vital issues pertaining to the State.
“Just to grab the power, the National Conference and Congress had entered into an alliance without forming the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) and without evolving consensus on important issues”.
He opined that formation of CMP was must for smoothly running a coalition regime and addressing grievances of the people and recalled that that despite having just 16 members in its kitty the PDP had entered into an alliance with Congress after senior leadership of the Congress high command including Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who was at that time leader of the opposition, had formulated the CMP and incorporated main demands of the PDP in it.
Calling upon the people to compare performance of PDP-Congress regime with the decades long mis-governance of successive National Conference led regimes, Mufti said that in short span the PDP led coalition regime had carved out a path of peace and equitable development in Jammu and Kashmir.
“As far as the performance of present alliance regime is concerned, it appears only on papers and nothing concrete visible on ground”, he said.
“For the last more than four years functioning of this dispensation is appeared only on papers and at grassroots level not even a single promise has been so far implemented”, he said and reminded the gathering that during campaign of the assembly elections in 2008, National Conference had made a number of promises with the people but these promises were yet to be translated into reality.
Highlighted achievements of PDP coalition in the State, he said that it was only during PDP-Congress regime that equal treatment was given to all regions and sub-regions of the State. “Before formation of PDP led regime in 2002, there were complaints of discrimination and step motherly treatments”, he recalled and hastened to add, “our regime had not only removed these discrimination but also had empowered Jammu and Ladakh regions”. The PDP patron said that in its tenure, the PDP had carved out a new path of peace and progress in this region and added that party had laid a strong foundation of mutual trust and confidence among all regions and sub-regions of the State.
Former Chief Minister while pointing towards various developmental projects started during his tenure, he reminded that it was during his regime that widening of roads in Jammu city was done besides developing a number of parking slots in the heart of the city. He further highlighted various projects started and completed during that tenure. He especially mentioned a water supply scheme and a comprehensive sanitation plan funded by Asian Development Bank were implemented in Jammu city during PDP led regime.
Calling upon the resident of Jammu city to come forward to join PDP, he said that aim of his party was to change the system to provide justice and equality to all sections of the society. “I don’t believe in self praising but during our tenure we had carved out a path of equitable and balanced development in the state”, he said and reminded that PDP led regime has brought complete transparency and accountability in the government as well as in the administration.
