3 women, cop among 9 killed in accidents

JAMMU, Sep 13: Nine persons, including three women and a police official, were killed in separate road accidents in the last 24 hours across Jammu region.
Police said that three women and a male passenger were killed when their car enroute to Jammu skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Ramban district at 9.50 AM today. All the bodies have been recovered, he added.
The car was enroute from Jammu to Baramulla, Kashmir.
The ill-fated Maruti Alto car bearing registration number JK02AM-7308 skidded off the road on National Highway IA and fell into about 1000 feet deep gorge neat Maroog about 10 kms from Ramban city resulting in four casualties including three women.
The deceased have been identified as J&K Armed Police constable Parminder Singh, son of Gurjeet singh resident of Gohan Baramulla, his wife Satinder Kour, Ranbeer Kour wife of Tajinder Singh Data of House number 7, Lane Number 7, Sector 7 Nanak Nagar Jammu and Satwinder Kour wife of Nageenpal Singh resident of Bishnesh Nagar near Gatta Factory Digiana, Jammu.
Red Cross unit Ramban and police party Ramban alongwith locals reached the spot of accident at 10.20 AM and started rescue operation. After a hectic operation four bodies were carried up to the National Highway.
All the bodies were shifted to District Hospital (DH) Ramban where after autopsy the bodies were handed over to legal heirs for last rites.
In another incident, four persons including a jawan of 2nd battalion of the Indian Reserve Police (IRP) were killed and two others including driver critically injured when a TATA Sumo in which they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in Zajnar area on Mughal Road.
The mishap took place yesterday when the ill-fated TATA Sumo bearing registration number JK-11-0585 was on its way to Srinagar from Rajouri. Most of the passengers travelling in it were from Rajouri district. Due to some mechanical failure, the vehicle went out of control between Peer Gali and Dubjan and rolled down into nearly 500 meter deep gorge.
Four bodies have been recovered from the gorge while two critically injured were rescued.
All four belonged to Dudasan Balla in Rajouri. Their bodies were later removed to Rajouri. They were identified as Mohammad Azhar, 26, son of Mohammad Ashraf (Jawan of IRP 2nd Bn), Sher Ali (21), son of Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Junaid (30), son of Wazir Hussain and Mohammad Rashid alias Sheeda, hailing from Dudasan Balla, Rajouri.
Two critically injured were identified as Mohammad Shakeel, driver of the vehicle from Dudasan Balla in Rajouri and Riaz Ahmed of Shopian. Both the injured were rushed to Soura Institute of Medical Sciences at Srinagar.
The bodies after postmortem at Rajouri were handed over to the family members for last rites.
In Jammu, a scooterist was knocked to death by an unidentified vehicle at Patiyala Chak near Domana last night.
The deceased has been identified as Vijay Sharma, son of Kartar Chand of Diodi Kube (Marh).
Police said that he was on its way towards his home on his scooter last night when known vehicle hit him resulting in his on the spot death at Patiyala Chak near Domana on Akhnoor road.
The victim was, however, shifted to GMC hospital where he was pronounced as brought dead.
