Anti-tobacco warnings in films
ActIT Jammu, Projects, Java,, C# Training Jammu
Dear Editor ,

Union government should be complimented for making it mandatory for showing visuals and films of adequate duration against use of tobacco-related products in films showing scenes of using cigarettes and other tobacco-related products.

It is also a healthy practice that statuary warning ‘Cigarettes are injurious to health’ simultaneously runs whenever any scene of cigarette appears in the film. But firstly such warning should also be in language of the film itself. For instance, such warning ran only in English in the newly released Hindi film ‘Shuddh Dehi Romance’. Moreover for greater impact such warning phrase should run like an interruption just in middle of the screen rather than merely as a formality in unreadable right-hand bottom corner.

Ideal will be to altogether ban scenes of consumption of tobacco-related products till these are aimed to highlight harm of the product. Any statuary warning against use of tobacco-related products cannot practically prevent inducing youngsters towards use of cigarettes where especially youth are the targeted viewers for the films like ‘Shuddh Dehi Romance’.
