He leaves behind wife, 2 months old daughter

KULGAM, Sept 8: When his elder son was killed in a gun fight with security forces 14 years back Ghulam Nabi Mir pinned all hopes on his younger son, Tariq Ahmad for support in old age but he never would have imagined that he will lose his only support when he needed him badly.
Tariq was killed by the CRPF men of 14 Battalion along with three other persons at Gagran Shopian yesterday. His body was kept for identification in district police lines Shopian and after being identified by his family members was handed over to them late last night. He was laid to rest amid wails and sobs early this morning at his ancestral village in Okhai-Kulgam. Tariq, who was the lone bread earner for his family left behind old aged parents, younger sister, wife and two months old daughter.
At Tariq’s home every one could be seen wailing and sobbing. “After the death of my elder son, who was a militant, me and my wife had pinned all hopes on Tariq. He was our only support in this old age. With his death we have not only lost the sole bread earner but our support too. We have lost everything,” said Tariq’s father, Ghulam Nabi Mir, as he broke down.
He said, Tariq was the lone source of survival for their family. “Since he was only 24 but he worked very hard to support the family. Despite doing all the homely chores he had started walnut trade. On Saturday he was also going to buy some walnuts in the village of his in-laws. Had I known that he will return dead I would have never allowed him to go there,” Mir said.
Mir seems to be more worried about his daughter-in-law and grand daughter. “I am more worried about his young wife and his two months old daughter. Their world has been shattered. How will they live life ahead haunts me every moment,” he said. Tariq’s neighbour, Mohammad Ashraf, said that he was a very gentle and polite man.
“He was only bothered about his homely chores. He would never interfere in anything in the village and talk to every one politely. He was the only hope for his parents. With his death the family is ruined,” Ashraf said.
