Headley conviction: Is it enough?
ActIT Jammu, ASP.net Projects, Java, Vb.net, C# Training Jammu
Dear Editor,

The date 26/11/2008 will always be associated with terrorism, horror and the loss of innocent lives. We all know about it and have represented our opinions about it as well. More than 150 lives were lost and countless injured. It was planned and aided by a Pakistani-American Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist David Coleman Headley. Headley has been convicted by the US judiciary to 35 years of imprisonment.

The attack in Mumbai was gruesome and is 35 years of imprisonment enough? Is it enough for the countless lives lost? We all have these questions in our minds. In fact, US district judge Harry Leinenweber, who sentenced Headley to 35 years in jail on January 24, was himself disappointed by the verdict he delivered. However, he did not announce a death penalty as US Department of Justice (DoJ) prosecutors did not seek it. That Headley evaded the death penalty has caused considerable heartburn in India. The terrorist, after all, pleaded guilty to all 12 charges in the indictment brought by the DoJ and admitted to have played an 'essential role' in the 26/11 plot. Many others named in the charge sheet including senior LeT leaders and retired or serving Pakistani military officials remain at large in Pakistan.
