Brendan Taylor "hopes" to play in second Test

MUMBAI, Sept 6: Zimbabwe's 28-year-old regular captain Brendan Taylor "hopes" to participate in the second Test against Pakistan rescheduled to be played in Harare (from Bulawayo) from September 10.
"I missed the first Test because of new arrival in the family. However, I am hopeful of playing the next Test", he said exclusively over telephone from his Harare residence. "My wife gave birth to a first baby-boy and both are fine", he added.
Taylor, of course, has been monitoring the team's performance. "I am happy with the team's lead in the first Test".
The fate of the second Test, however, also depends on when the players get their dues from Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC).
"We have been promised (by the employers) to get our payments on Friday and hopefully, if everything goes well, the players would play the second Test".
The ZC board is in deep financial trouble and the second Test has been moved to Harare to save the travel costs.
The newly-formed players association is fighting for the players' rights. Brendan Taylor has been nominated as a vice -president of the players' association.
"The board has not opposed the formation of the players' association and we hope it to be recognized by them", he added.
Hamilton Masakadza, the top order batsman, who is captaining the side in the absence of Taylor, is the president of the players' association and right-handed off-spinner, Prosper Utseya is the treasurer, it is learnt here.
The association is yet to be registered with FICA (Federation of International Cricketers: Association), confirms its CEO, Paul Marsh. "The newly formed cricketers' association in Zimbabwe is not the member at the moment but we hope at some stage they will be", Marsh informed from Australia.
