PDP demands rehab of Kishtwar violence affected families

SRINAGAR, Aug 29: Demanding proper rehabilitation of the violence affected families of Kishtwar and adjoining areas, PDP today termed the judicial probe announced by the state government to investigate the unfortunate incident of August 9 an eyewash to hide the truth.
In a statement, the party observed that earlier similar investigations were announced by the present coalition government but nothing concrete emerged from such inquiries. In a meeting of senior party activists of Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha segment, which was held under the chairmanship of PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the leaders recounted that since formation of this coalition government in January 2009, a numbers of inquiries have been announced from time to time ‘but all such investigations ultimately proved as deceit tactics on the part of the state government to shield the real culprits.’
The party strongly demanded that instead of indulging into customary exercises on announcing inquiry, the state government should take strict action against the real culprits responsible for violence to restore confidence among people. Expressing their anguish over loss of precious human lives and properties in Kishtwar violence, PDP demanded that all the affected families should be rehabilitated completely.
The party leaders exhorted workers to strengthen communal harmony and brotherhood in the region. PDP leaders said failure of the state government to protect lives of innocent people has badly shattered faith of the common masses. They alleged that state government was deliberately allowing the situation to be deteriorated because anarchy, chaos and mayhem suit National Conference. They regretted that the process of peace and reconciliation which was started during the regime of Mufti has been reversed by the present dispensation through its ‘misdeeds and failures.’
Coming down heavily on state government headed by Omar Abdullah, PDP leaders regretted that almost four months have been passed after devastating earthquake had rocked Chenab Valley region ‘but nothing has been done to rehabilitate the affected families.’ They expressed serious concern over mounting woes of those families whose houses were damaged in the tremor.
“It is very unfortunate that present government has been brazenly indulged into cheap politics on human tragedies in earthquake in Chenab Valley region but on ground no step has been taken so far to provide relief to the affected families,” they said and demanded that a comprehensive package should be given to the affected families.
The party demanded that all the affected families should he provided shelter before commencement of winter. Expressing grave concern over loss of lives and properties in devastating rains and flash floods, party asked the State Government to immediate constitute special teams to assess the loss and release some immediate relief to the victims. Party pointed out that hundreds of houses were collapsed and a number of people have lost their lives. Party leaders said that incessant rains have rendered scores of people homeless and huge chunk of agriculture land has been washed away in floods.
While emphasizing on the need of deputing special teams on the affected areas to assess the losses, party demanded that relief and rehabilitation operation should be started on war-footing.
