SRINAGAR, Sept 22: Former Chief Ministers of J&K Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah welcomed the decision of government to release Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
"I welcome the step taken by the administration in J&K to release Mirwaiz Umar Farooq from house arrest. I hope that they allow him to move freely, interact with people & resume his social/religious responsibilities. Today eyes in Kashmir will be on the Mirwaiz as he delivers his first Friday sermon in Jamia Masjid after 2019," Omar Abdullah wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
PDP President and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti Friday said that after years of denial by Lieutenant Governor led administration about his detention, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq will walk a free man.
Mehbooba castigated BJP at the occasion saying, a tussle has already begun between BJPs various political outfits to claim credit for his release.
"Finally, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq will walk a free man after years of LGs admin’s denial about his detention. As a religious head he is held in high regard by muslims across J&K. Unfortunate that a tussle has already begun between BJPs various political outfits to claim credit for his release," Mehbooba wrote on X.
Notably authorities after thorough consultations with security and law & enforcement agencies decided to allow Mirwaiz Umar Farooq for Friday congregational prayers in historic Jama Masjid in Srinagar. Earlier the LG led government released Abdul Rashid Dawoodi and Mushtaq Ahmad from detention.
