NEW DELHI, August 5: The Congress is lobbying for reinstatement of Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha to enable him to participate in the debate to start on the no-confidence motion on Tuesday.
All eyes are on Speaker Om Birla, as he has to clear the file on the notification to be issued reinstating Rahul in Lok Sabha. As per procedure, Rahul or his representative will have to submit a copy of the Supreme Court order staying his conviction to the Lok Sabha secretariat.
The Congress leaders want a "grand re-entry" of Rahul in Parliament as he may be one of the speakers on the no-confidence motion if he is reinstated before August 10, the last day of the 3-day debate on it.
In a tweet on Saturday, the Congress said: "Rahul Gandhi ji's fearless voice will again roar in the Parliament. We will protect the idea of India and resist any attempt to undermine democracy."
Calling Rahul "Jannayak" on the lines of "Loknayak" used for Jaya Prakash Narayan, the Congress tweeted that "Jannayak is necessary in Parliament for protecting the democracy. Because the income of your labour is going into the pockets of a handful of capitalists."
