Jat Maha Sabha lauds J&K Govt for taking up issue with MEA for ownership rights of custodian land to 1965, 1971 refugees

Demands four times compensation as per market value to Jat people whose land acquired in Govt projects

JAMMU, Nov 5: All India Jat Maha Sabha (AIJMS) today appreciated the prolific step of J&K Government for taking up the matter with the Ministry of External Affairs pertaining to ownership rights of Custodian property to the refugees of 1965 and 1971 who had migrated during Indo-Pak wars and got settled here.
Addressing media persons here today, Ch Manmohan Singh, President All India Jat Maha Sabha (AIJMS) and former Mayor lauded the J&K Government for showing serious concern towards the plights of refugees who were allotted land chunks in 1965 and 1971 after they migrated from Chhamb and other areas.
The Jat leader said that the displaced Jat community has been spread across geographical areas of Kathua, Samba, Jammu and Akhnoor, and leading a life facing occasional border firing, disturbances and other hardships. “The Jats have no other resources, income or job except surviving on very meager land they were allotted and being possessed by them since years”, he said. He stated that due to the ongoing development and infrastructure projects in the union territory, the allotted custodian land chunks of the Jat people have come under these projects and due to lack of ownership rights, the affected families have not been able to get a claim or the entitled compensation.
The former Mayor clarified that till date the displaced Jat community has been deprived of ownership rights of custodian lands allotted to them after their migration due to which the compensation of same custodian land, which has been acquired by the government for developmental projects, have received by the custodian department.
Ch Manmohan Singh said that Jat MahaSabha and his whole team visited Tehsil level in various districts of the Union Territory to make community people aware of this grave issues, resulting in the government has agreed to provide ownership rights to the Jat commity which seem to be a victory for the community.
Ch. Manmohan thanked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Lt Governor for consideration of a very genuine demand of Jat community. He also thanked print, electronic and social media for playing a vital role in highlighting the issues of Jat community due to which the displaced persons would be able to get OBC status and now very soon they will get ownership rights of their allotted land.
The Jat leader appealed to the government to provide adequate compensation to Jat community people as per four times the current market value of the property, whose land has been acquired by the government in the government projects right from Kathua to Rajouri Poonch.
Among others who were present include Col RL Gangal, CA Sunil Choudhary, Kamal Randhawa, Vijay Choudhary, Rampal Choudhary, Sukhdev Singh, Surinder Singh and Surjit Singh.
